Assistant Professor at the Far Eastern University Department of Communication
Assistant Professor Karen Lee V. Panela (she/her) has over 26 years of teaching experience at the Far Eastern University Department of Communication. She served as the Chair of the Department of Communication from November 2015 to May 2018. She is a graduate of MA in Mass Communication in the same University.
During its interim year, Karen served as PACMRI's Director of Membership before being elected as one of the PACMRI Board of Trustees in January 2022 and served as the organization's Secretary. This fresh term, Karen is back as the Director for Membership.
She has also been re-elected as President of the FEU Faculty Association, Inc. (FEUFA) for another 5-year term. FEUFA is the sole labor union organization of the regular faculty members of FEU.
Her other extra-curricular duties include being the longest serving academic organization Adviser of the FEU Communication Society and the faculty-in charge of production for the FEU Campus Hour at Radyo Veritas 846. In FEU, she is a three-time recipient of the “Feather Award” since its inception in 2022. This award is given to faculty members who were selected several times over by the graduates who received academic recognition as the teacher who had the most positive influence on them.
Karen's research interests include gender and media, humor, popular culture, political economy, and fan culture.
