  • 5 December 2025, 1:00pm-2:30 pm Philippine Time, Zoom

Join us for our last masterclass of the year on December 5, 2025, 1:00 PM Philippine time, as scholars and teachers from the University of Santo Tomas share their insights on “Theorizing in Action: Communication Research at Work.”

This Masterclass brings together emerging and established communication scholars from University of Santo Tomas – Department of Communication and the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education (RCSSED) to explore the practice of theorizing as both foundation and frontier of communication research. Moving beyond the application of established frameworks, the panel highlights how theory is imagined, constructed, and mobilized to interrogate contemporary phenomena in Philippine and global contexts.

The presentations demonstrate the diverse pathways of theorizing: from constructing new models that map uncharted terrains such as human–AI communication, to advancing decolonial perspectives that reclaim Filipino personhood as a lens for digital identity, to applying marketing communication theories in designing and evaluating messages, to reinterpreting space as a communicative agency for community-building. Collectively, these contributions showcase theorizing not as an abstract pursuit but as a living practice—one that generates critical, empirical, and practical tools for understanding how humans interact with technologies, cultures, and institutions.

By situating theory as both process and product, this panel underscores its indispensable role in shaping the future of communication and media research.

This masterclass is held in collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas – Department of Communication and the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education (RCSSED).
