Dame B. Avelino, MA

Assistant Professor at the Angeles University Foundation Department of Communication

About

Assistant Professor Dame B. Avelino (she/they/he) teaches film, transmedia storytelling, and research courses at the Department of Communication of the Angeles University Foundation.   

From May 2017 until August 2022, Dame had served as the Program Chair of the same department. They graduated AB Mass Communication at the Angeles University Foundation, and MA Communication at the University of Santo Tomas.


Prior to becoming the Assistant Secretary of the PACMRI Board of Trustees on 2024, Dame had served as the Luzon Area Coordinator for the PACMRI Research Committee in 2021. On September 2021, Dame was one of the speakers in the PACMRI Webinar, Critical Research: A Thomasian Sampler.


Dame’s research interests include popular culture; media and cultural studies; fan studies; film studies; graphic novel and comics; critical, feminist, and queer theories. They had presented their research on international conferences such as the Asian Congress for Media and Communication (ACMC), the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) Asian Conference for Arts and Humanities, and the Joint International Conference of Graphic Novels, Comics and Bande Dessineés. They also had published their research on the UNITAS journal.


Apart from teaching and research, Dame is a pre-screening reviewer for the Cambridge Film Festival, UK, since 2023. They are also a webtoon and manga enthusiast.
