PACMRI Holds Midyear General Assembly and Oath-taking Ceremony
Manila, Philippines – 23 August 2024 – The Philippine Association for Communication and Media Research, Inc. (PACMRI) successfully conducted its Midyear General Assembly and Oath Taking of the Board of Trustees on August 23, 2024. The hybrid event, held at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication Auditorium and online via Zoom, was graced by esteemed officers and members of the association.
The highlight of the assembly was the keynote address as well as the oath and pledge administration by Atty. Maria Leonor “Leni” Gerona Robredo, former Vice President of the Philippines and the Chairperson & President of Angat Pinas, Inc. Atty. Robredo’s inspiring speech emphasized the importance of integrity, dedication, and innovation in the field of communication and media research. In tackling the strategies to deal with disinformation, its mechanisms, and its remnants, as “patient zero” of this online phenomenon, Atty. Robredo highlighted how we must either repair the spaces eroded by disinformation or build new ones. “There is a need for public spaces where ideas, especially lies, are challenged, where debates are healthy, and where courtesy and understanding thrive despite disagreements,” Atty. Robredo states.
In addition to the oath taking ceremony, the assembly featured a compelling research talk titled “Social Media for Educational Assessment: Realities, Opportunities, Challenges.” The talk was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Jonalou SJ. Labor, a respected academic and researcher in the field. Assoc. Prof. Labor’s insights provided valuable perspectives on the evolving role of social media in educational assessment, highlighting both the potential benefits and the challenges faced by educators, and establishing potential research areas on the further utilization of social media in pedagogical spaces.
The event was attended by researchers, teachers, and students in the field of communication and media. It served as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and fostering collaborations among scholars dedicated to advancing communication and media research for the Filipinos and the Philippines.
PACMRI continues to uphold its commitment to promoting excellence in communication and media research through similar events where collective joy and collaborative efforts thrive. The association looks forward to more initiatives that will contribute to the growth and development of the field.
